Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
This is a coming of age story and follows Francesca, a young girl that is going to a new coed school but is mostly still boys as she is dealing with issues at home, her mother going through a bout of depression and Francesca has no clue why. Francesca has new friends and even a love interest but he unfortunately has a girlfriend. Her mother can't seem to even get out of bed and this causing conflict with her and her dad. Francesca is weighted down with all of this and is trying to cope. I do not want to go into the story more as to not spoil it but I do recommend it. It definitely shows how depression affects everyone.
