Hallowe'en Party (Hercule Poirot #39)

Stars 5/5
Hallowe'en Party (Hercule Poirot #39) by Agatha Christie

This is the 39th book in the Hercule Poirot series and I have to say I think it is the most popular. The book starts with a Halloween party for some kids and one comes up dead with her head pushed down into the apple bobbing tub. Hercule Poirot is on the case! I highly recommend this book as well as the series to everyone. This is an amazing read in the Autumn/Halloween season.

This is the second book in the Green Town series. The Cooger and Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show has came to Green Town. Two young boys are excited and drawn to the show to see the most beautiful woman in the world. Thousands of Mirrors and things nightmares are made of. Creepy carnivals are always my favorite. I do recommend this book especially during the Autumn/Halloween season.

Dandelion Wine

Stars 5/5
Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury

Rebecca

Stars 5/5
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Of course, this is not my first time reading Rebecca but I wanted to revisit this world as it has been a long time since I last had. I just love this book. I could go into a very long discussion on how I feel about this book and how things that happened in my life has helped me better understand the character's thoughts and actions but I will just say that it is a very powerful story and I can't recommend it more. The story follows a young girl who meets and marries a rich older man who is newly widowed. Being the second Mrs de Winter, the young girl feels haunted by the first Mrs de Winter, Rebecca. I do not want to go into the story more. This is just one of those books that will always be a classic Must Read. I highly recommend it.

Perfect Ten

Stars 4/5
Perfect Ten by L. Philips

I really enjoyed that the setting was in Athens, Ohio and the character's love for Donkey Coffee because I love it too! The story followed Sam and his struggles finding a new guy to date which I really didn't understand because Athens is a huge college town - Ohio University. Anyway, Sam and his friends decide to do a spell to find the perfect guy for Sam and I have to say that I really wish the author would of pulled in some of the historical haunting aspects of Athens in that it is one of the most haunted in Ohio. Sam soon finds out that the perfect ten is not all that it's cracked up to be. I don't want to go into the story more as to not spoil it but I do recommend it. It was a fun read.

This story follows Caymen, a young girl that lives with her mom and runs a Doll Shop. One day Xander, a young guy who is the son of a rich family comes into the store to pick up a doll for his grandma and that is when the sparks fly. The Spellbook Of Katrina Van Tassel

Stars 5/5
The Spellbook Of Katrina Van Tassel by Alyssa Palombo
(note... This book made it to my 2018 Favorites List)

First, let me be honest and say that I really didn't want to read this book because The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is one of my all time favorite books and so I was very hesitant about reading this book but OMG I am so very glad I did! This book blew me away it was so good! The author's writing is spellbinding in which it pulls you so deep in the story that you are right there as everything happens. The character building is so good it is beyond belief. The author gave all the characters life and I am amazed! Unwind

Stars 5/5
Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Oh how I loved this story! I can not wait to get to the next book. This is the first book in the Unwind Dystology and it follows three young kids that are trying hard to escape their fate. In this futuristic dystopian world, it is legal to "unwind" a child ages 13 -18, which basically means the parents or state gives the right to chop the kids up and donate all the parts. These kids are just trying to stay alive until after their 18th birthday. After that, the state is not permitted to "unwind" them. This book is amazing and I highly recommend it.

Animal Farm

Stars 5/5
Animal Farm by George Orwell

Of course, this is not the first time I have read Animal Farm but it had been a long time so I wanted to re-read it. This is a short story about a farmer that has became lazy and thus the animals on the farm have suffered and even starved. The animals decide to overtake the farm with the lead of pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, to rid themselves of the corrupted humans. I don't want to go into the story more as to not spoil it but I highly recommend it. With power sometimes comes corruption.

A Room Away From The Wolves

Stars 5/5
A Room Away From The Wolves by Nova Ren Suma

When I got to the end of this book, I realized that everything I thought I knew I didn't and things were totally different. The only way I can describe this book is that it is about a young girl called Bina. Her mother left her father due to domestic violence and got involved with another man. This man had two daughters that hated Bina and mentally and physically abused her all the time. Bina escaped to Katherine House, a place her mother told her about as she grew up and how wonderful it was to live there. At the Katherine House, Bina met a Monet and quickly developed a bond with her and things in the house were not as they seem. I do not want to go into the story more as to not spoil it and I highly recommend it. It was an awesomely atmospheric magical book.

A Very Expanse Of Sea

Stars 4/5
A Very Large Expanse Of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

Most of the time, I try to steer clear of books with political or religious elements due to differing beliefs but I really wanted to read this book and I am glad I did. The story follows Shirin, a young muslim girl who is dealing with issues of hate and prejudice after 9/11. Shirin is angry and has a problem trusting anyone after moving to her new home and school until she meets Ocean. I don't want to go into the story more as to not spoil it but I do recommend it.

Pride

Stars 1/5
Pride by Ibi Zoboi

When I found out about this book, I was really excited. A culturally diverse Pride and Prejudice retelling is definitely a book I wanted to read since I am a true fan of Jane Austen. This book was not for me at all. I never DNF a book because I always hope it gets better but I must say I really wanted to put this book down many times throughout the book but I didn't. I did not like the main character, Zuri, at all. It wasn't pride that she had. It was hate for anyone not like her and her family. I really try hard to stay away from such negativity and prejudices so I have to say that I could not recommend this book.

OMG the Cliffhanger! This book has everything I just love. A boarding school. A mystery with twists and turns. An exploration of the past and of course a murder to solve. The story follows Stevie, a young girl accepted to Ellingham Academy for her interest in crime and especially the cold case of founder Albert Ellingham. Mr Ellingham's wife and daughter were kidnapped, the wife's body was found but they never did find the daughter. Everyone from that time was dead but who is writing new riddles and committing murder? I do not want to go into the story more as to not spoil it but I do recommend this book and I can not wait to read the next one.

Meddling Kids

Stars 4/5
Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero

As a loving fan of Scooby Doo, I was so excited for this book. I can honestly say I really enjoyed this book other than what happened to the Peter character (Fred). I really wish it was the whole gang back together. I don't want to go into the story as not to spoil it but I will say that the story is very unique and creative. The gang goes back to Blyton Hills, as adults, to investigate the last case they thought they solved back in 1977. I did love the supernatural aspect to the story line and so I do recommend it to everyone who loves a twisty who done it.

It is close to the story but done in Elizabeth's POV and it worked out fantastic. Very unique and creative. Moby Dick was first published on 10/18/1851 so I had to read this book for the 2018 #Spookathon Of course, this is not the first time I have read Moby Dick but it has been a very long time ago and I felt it was time for me to revisit this seafarer's world. This story is far more than just an obsessed madman trying to kill a whale for revenge, it is a world of whales and whaling. The book goes into everything about sperm whales. How every part of the whale was used and how it was needed by consumers in that time period. Lots of things has changed regarding whaling, but this is a most interesting read that brings you back to 1851. This is a book that is a "Must Read" not only because it is a classic but it is an adventure that you will feel proud that you accomplished reading it. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Her and her online friend Juliet meet up for the first time to go to the concert and let me just say that obsessions for anything are never good. I do not want to go into the story more as to not spoil it but I will say that things are not always as they seem. I do recommend this book.

Baby Teeth

Stars 5/5
Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage

WoW! Ok let me be honest about this book. When I first received an ARC, I didn't want to read it because I knew it was going to scare me to death. OMG I am so glad I read this book. It was so awesome! I hope there is going to be another book! I need to know what happens next! The story follows a family. Suzette is the mom, Hannah is the daughter that hates her mom and the father works out of the home so he doesn't see Hannah's bizarre behavior. Let me be perfectly honest and say that this little girl needed a spanking from just about day one lol. No seriously, this little girl has a lot of mental issues and wants her mom dead so she can have daddy's full attention and all to herself. I am not going into the story more as to not spoil it but OMG this is a "Must Read" especially during the Autumn/Halloween season. It is really creepy but I highly recommend it to everyone.
