A Very Large Expanse Of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
Most of the time, I try to steer clear of books with political or religious elements due to differing beliefs but I really wanted to read this book and I am glad I did. The story follows Shirin, a young muslim girl who is dealing with issues of hate and prejudice after 9/11. Shirin is angry and has a problem trusting anyone after moving to her new home and school until she meets Ocean. I don't want to go into the story more as to not spoil it but I do recommend it.
